Eagle up Close

I hate when birds are so close they don't even fit in the frame of the camera, but I love a close encounter no less. Are pictures like this with the wings cut off worth saving? I used to delete all pics like this (click to enlarge), but now I think they are at least worth saving....any thoughts?

Jerry, I used to delete them too but after getting a Bald Eagle image at Farmington Bay where the wings were clipped but it showed great details in the eagle's face and plumage I started saving some. Apparently other people like that image a lot too.

Thanks Mia

I saved a few over the years, and am glad I did.

Definitely worth saving. There is a lot of drama in close encounter shots. People really love images like this because of that drama, I think.

I think it's a beautiful shot. If I had taken it, I'd definately keep it!

That's what I wanted to hear, I agree but others dislike when the iwngs are cut off (which I get too)

Thanks for the comments Becky and Bryce

Absolutely keep such images if you like the results! For commercial purposes, the buyer will let you know what they like or don't like. I love using these to study the subject and sometimes there are those that may have a personal meaning for the photographer. Those can be "priceless"!

Photos can serve a number of different purposes. What makes a "good" photo is somewhat dependent on which purpose(s) you intend to put the photo too. While this one isn't good if your purpose is to show the entire bird, I think it is well worth keeping if your purpose is to show the details or what an eagle looks like, to show the drama of seeing a close eagle, or to simply remember the sighting.

What a magnificent specimen. Truly the emperor of all birds. Very neat shot of an adult GE and you can really see (despite this being the opposite angle) where this bird gets its name. Not only is the nape golden, but this photo actually highlights the golden color of the patagium.
