Coffee

For any coffee lovers out there…what do you find is the ultimate way to brew a cup of coffee? For me, using a ceramic dripper seems to produce the best tasting cup. I use ceramic or stainless steel (paper cup works well too) over plastic. I think plastic takes away from the fresh / real taste of the coffee. A stainless steel french press or automatic countertop dripper works well, but I really find coffee from a plastic dripper unpleasant. Hey, maybe I'm wrong, or just a big snob, but everyone has their particular tastes. So, if anyone has thoughts on coffee, please share them since I always want to hear about my favorite drink.

Where did you get the Whimbrel mug!?

And of course ceramic drip makes the best coffee. Wish I had one...

Sibley used to give them as X-mas gifts years ago, he had a few others too. I have a Sage Grouse mug of his that I love.

I usually make drip coffee because it is so easy, but if I have a little more time and want to mess around a little I love my AeroPress: http://www.amazon.com/Aerobie-AeroPress-Coffee-Espresso-Maker/dp/B0047BIWSK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1384295174&sr=8-5&keywords=espresso+maker

I also like drip coffee because it is easy and tasty, but if I have a little more time to fool around I love my AeroPress: http://www.amazon.com/Aerobie-AeroPress-Coffee-Espresso-Maker/dp/B0047BIWSK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1384295174&sr=8-5&keywords=espresso+maker

For the most part I grew up in Europe and we used ceramic drippers long before they were easily available in the U.S. For camping trips I use a plastic dripper simply because it can't be broken.

I love my coffee.

I have a plastic dripper too for travel by plane, I also have a few camping coffee dripper screen types. I rarely use my french press anymore but do you use my espresso maker still.

The very best coffee requires a ceramic percolating coffee pot--the blue one with white specks, preferably--the kind seen in camps everywhere when we were kids. Seriously, we began to use one when our fancy coffee maker went on the blink and never went back. When we somehow lost the lid to Old Blue, we used a regular stainless steel sauce pan with a copper bottom in a pinch. Letting it come to the beginning of a boil, but not actually boiling it produced great coffee with a consistently deep and rich flavor no matter the brand or country of origin.

A related question might be: Does anyone out there use Bird Friendly coffee that, if I remember correctly, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology promotes.

I'm not terribly fussy about coffee (though I absolutely have to have it in the morning). I'm too groggy when I first get up to discern subtle differences and by the time coffee solves that problem I've had my fill for the day. Guess I'm not a connoisseur, though I am certainly addicted....

Jerry, you do make a damn fine cup of coffee; I can attest to this. I have a standard coffee brewer at home and I use a french press with my jet boil when I'm camping. What are your favorite places to go get a cup of coffee (other than the Liguori kitchen)?

Best post yet Jerry! Ain't nothing like hawkwatching and coffee . . . especially mid-afternoon in late fall when the air is chilling your bones and you crack open that thermos filled with some dark roast to warm you up . . . gotta love it!!

Hawk Watching with a cuppa joe is evidence of a life well lived! You brew a helluva coffee Jerry. My very favorite coffee is the house blend at Eclectica Cafe in Moab. (I'd bet a wooden nickel it comes from Cafe Ibis.) At home, we drink Cafe Ibis's Highlander Grog. It's TASTY. Like many, we use the auto-drip at home and french press on the road.

Yes, I have 3 (broke the 4th) of a matched set of hand painted geese, pheasants and a variety of ducks on them. Rarely use them though - prefer insulated cups.

"FOLGERS" Shyloh? Your plebian preferences are really more like mine, I guess...
